Mad Men Exhibit At The Museum of Moving Image

I recently attended the Mad Men Exhibit currently available at The Museum of Moving Image  in Queens, New York. Not only was the Mad Men Exhibit memorizing but the rest of the museum as well. I have been meaning to visit this museum for ages and it did not disappoint. It is now one of my favorites along with the The Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan.

On Fridays from 4-8pm the museum is free and so I took the entire family along with me on this adventure into the world of moving making and Mad Men.

Photos are not really permitted but I was able to sneak a few that I shared on my Instagram HERE. I was astounded by the details that went into creating the world of Mad Men. The creator, Matthew Weiner (whom I heard speak at an event a few months ago) is a very creative, very detailed oriented, and very passionate writer. He took notes upon notes of his ideas, he created vision boards for each character that included authentic photos from the 60's that he cut out and pasted, he read a heap of books on the 1960's, and made sure that every dress, every piece of furniture was painstaking recreated in order for us to feel like we really are in the 1960's.

I was impressed that even Don Draper's driver's license had Jon Hamm's photo in it. In putting together a show I don't think you have to go that far to create a world for the viewer but it was done for Mad Men. I am not a seamstress but my jaw dropped on how well made the dresses were especially the dresses for Joan's character. I just wanted to sweep in and snatch all of the pieces!

Here is a peak into the Mad Men Exhibit:

The exhibit will be available until September 6, 2015, so if you are in the neighborhood I highly recommend taking a peak.

Are you as surprised as I was to learn about how incredibly detailed the props and costumes for Mad Men were? What prop or dress did you wish you could walk away with when you were watching the show?

  1. This looks amazing! I am so sad that it finishes at the beginning of September since I won't be in New York until the end of September! I love Betty's shirtdresses from the first season but my favourite is one of Peggy's (4x11) in blue with red peeking out in the pleats and piping!
