We all know that Coco Chanel was one of the most innovative and artistic fashion designers of the 20th Century. She is known for her little black dress, Chanel No. 5 Perfume, and her handbags. But what kept inspiring her through the years. One cannot create unless they are inspired and our environment has a huge influence on us. I know that I am very environment oriented and the times when I have been least creative were the times when my environment wasn't the best place to be at.

For Coco Chanel, where she grew up, where she later lived, and the landscapes around her influenced her view of the world and her creativity. If you have ever wanted to learn more about Coco Chanel and her influences, Living With Coco by Caroline Young will give you a deeper insight into her world and how it continuously inspired her.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I learned about Coco Chanel just in the first few pages. The author really gives a full picture of who Chanel was as a person and then explores how her environment influenced her. One example that I enjoyed reading was when Chanel began critiqueing the clothes that women wore at the races, describing the hats as "enormous loaves on their heads, constructions made of feathers and improved with fruits and plumes." Not only did she find herself as a young women wanting to stay apart from the crowd but I couldn't help but think perhaps this inspired her desire for minimalism in her clothing and handbag lines, as well as her perfumes. She wanted women to feel inspired and break away from the confines of the corsets and large brimming hats and to live comfortably and freely.

The author not only explores her humble beginnings but her rise to becoming an iconic fashion designer. I found that the more I read the more I wanted to know about Chanel. Not only does the author explore the landscapes and environments that helped shape Chanels's view of the world around her but she also gives us a full picture of who she was as an artist and a women.

Loving vintage fashion is a good thing. A very good thing, in my book anyway. I think that when we learn more about those who created the fashion we love it can make us appreciate the creativity of those designs even more. Reading Living With Coco was not only informative but really inspiring. She was an incredible woman who created a life for herself with her own sets of rules. She was a woman ahead of her time and knowing more about her has inspired me endlessly.
