Hollywood's First Celebrity Couple: Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford

Before Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner there was Hollywood's very first celebrity couple, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford.

They were both famous silent film actors. Pickford was known for her "Little Girl" roles and Fairbanks for his swashbuckler roles. While they were both married to other people, they fell in love. By 1920 they were married and instantly became Hollywood royalty. Including Fairbanks being referred to as "The King of Hollywood".

Fairbanks and Pickford were so famous and loved by the masses that they were able to acquire a huge some of money in the form of liberty bonds during WWI (before their marriage).  In 1927, they were the first to have their hand prints placed in cement outside Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Huge crowds would constantly wait for them whether it was their honeymoon or a premiere of their latest film.

Fairbanks and Pickford were gifted with being not only present for the beginnings of the film industry but also with a love that endured over sixteen years. Many celebrities have to go through the ups and downs of stardom alone but they had one another. They showed the world what a Hollywood couple truly is.

  6. Most artists know their fans are interested in autographs and photos, so if you are serving them in some manner, you can count on them to offer if they are willing to provide them.
