A Vintage Nerd, Vintage Blog, Wizard of Oz Inspiration, Wizard of Oz, Lessons to be Learned from the Wizard of Oz, Classic Film Blog, Old Hollywood Blog

This month marks the 75th Anniversary of the 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz. The original release date was August 12th, 1939. The Hollywood premier was on August 15th, 1939 and the New York premier was held 75 years ago tomorrow! This week and next I will continue sharing posts dedicated to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

I spotlighted the 1939 film HERE as well as shared behind the scenes photos of the film HERE. Today I am beginning a three part series that is my Ultimate Guide To Wizard of Oz Stuff

Here are a few wonderful books that every fan of the film and story would love and appreciate:

The Wizard of Oz

The first book is of course the story of Dorothy and Oz. The second and third include inside information and knowledge of the film. Books 3-5 have more information as well as the story of Toto. Books 7 and 8 are inspired by the story while the last is actually a magazine. I have it and it is incredible. If you love the film you must own this, it is definitely a collectible item.

I love films as much as I love books. There have been many renditions of The Wizard of Oz as well as stories set beyond such as The Return to Oz. There have also been a few animated film version as well as films inspired by the story of Dorothy and Oz such as Tin Man (2007). I know some may not appreciate the re-imagining of such a classic tale but quite a few of them are really good.

Here are some films (dvds) inspired by The Wizard of Oz as well as some fantastic re-imaginings:

The Wizard of Oz

Films 1-7 are geared more to children although I think children can watch all of these. While films 8-10 are re-imaginings. The final two dvds are documentaries. I have seen about half of these films and the others I would love to see. My children's first taste of this magical story was while watching the Mickey Mouse version (#2). Eventually I did show my daughter the original film as well as Oz: The Great and Powerful. I'm happy to say she loved them both and of course so do I!

I do hope that you enjoy this series of my Ultimate Guide to Wizard of Oz Stuff as there is more to come! I didn't want to overwhelm you with everything that I found but if you are a fan of the film, the books, or the story in general then you may find these items to be as drool worthy as I find them!

Have you read any of the books I listed? Have about the films? Are there any you would love to read or see?
