The Easter season was a pivotal one many families here in the States during the 1960's. The entire family would dress in what they called their "Easter best". The women and girls would wear their best dresses and pair them with spring styled hats, gloves, and handbags that matched. The men and boys would wear their best suit and groom themselves until they sparkled.
The families who celebrated Easter would go to mass and then spend the day doing Easter related activities such as; meeting the Easter bunny, going on a egg hunt, and going through their goodies inside their Easter baskets. There would also be a big Easter lunch or dinner and the entire family would feast in celebration. I love how people used to dress on Easter Sunday. I love that they wore their best clothes and filled their day celebrating together as a family.
The face on the older girl in the middle photo of the top row!
ReplyDeleteWe have video of my mom's family in the 60's on Easter and they really did get beautifully dressed up. I'm guessing from the looks of some of the younger girl's dresses a few of them were also subjected to the inflatable petticoats that my mom and her cousins had to wear.
Aren't these photos so great!! I bet the kids didn't like to dress up all the time. I know I didn't always like it but looking back I'm glad they did it haha xox
