You may not know this but I am a big horror movie buff. It all started with my older brother introducing me to the horror films of the 1970's and 1980's. The sharing of this genre of film created a special bond between my brother and I. We are really different people but this is one of those things that still keeps us talking for hours on end. Our love for horror movies runs deep.
Then last year I decided to share a bit more of my love for horror with my children. I created a 31 Days of Halloween filmfest and I would have them choose from the list I had curated and we would watch them together. I put together a mix of child friendly spooky films like the Halloweentown series with classic horror films like The Bad Seed (1956). I also tried to put in a few "modern" horror films but of course I had to make sure it would be suitable for them.
This year we are continuing our new tradition with another round of 31 Days of Halloween films where I am including The Birds (1963), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), and House of Wax (1953), among many others.
If you ever want to explore classic horror films or watch a heap of them to put you in the Halloween mood, here is a list of fantastic spooky films that will really make your quiver and shiver. Keep in mind that each decade explored horror from a different point of view. For example, 1930's films explored monsters, 1960's horror was more psychological, and 1970's horror started to really push the boundaries of what scary really meant.
