Have you ever passed by a stack of vintage magazines at a thrift store and wondered if they were worth reading? They are old and worn and have outdated advice so why buy them and read them at all?

Here are 6 good reasons why you should read vintage magazines:

  • Loads of recipes to give you great ideas for your meal planning
  • Vintage hairstyle and makeup tutorials, tips, and tricks
  • Possibly old fashioned but tried and true advice on all aspects of life
  • A look back on the history of what life was really like during that time
  • Heaps of nostalgia especially with all those neat advertisements

  1. I agree with you, vintage magazines are a great resource and such a fun way to learn about the everyday aspects of the past! My favorites tend to be "Woman's Day" for the sewing patterns!

  2. I adore reading vintage magazines. The Harold Washington Library Center in Chicago had bound periodicals of magazines from the 1900s-1990s. And they are all free for anyone to read and copy from. Which is excellent news, I use to buy vintage magazines.

    Once the Rona hit, I had to move to Texas, and I could not bring a lot of my things with me I ended up donating my vintage magazines to the free outdoor book exchange. Sadly, in Texas their libraries do not keep vintage magazines.

    I know somewhere on the Fedora Lounge (dot) com website there a link was where one could read vintage women's magazines online; I do not remember the name of the thread and the thread is not listed as a keyword search.

    1. That is amazing that they do that! Omg I am so sorry you had to donate them. Vintage magazines are so fun to collect but they do take up a lot of space for sure lol xox
