Ode to Mary Quant

Mary Quant was undeniably a fashion icon. She changed the way women dressed in the 1960's with her design of the miniskirt and hot pants. Ladies and girls everywhere went from fitted waisted, full skirt dresses to short skirts and figure hugging short shorts. Wearing one of Quant's pieces became an act of rebellion against the traditions of the older generations and an act of liberation of the female form.

Although her most iconic pieces were created in the 1960's, she continued to design well into the 1980s. Ernestine Carter once wrote: "It is given to a fortunate few to be born at the right time, in the right place, with the right talents. In recent fashion there are three: ChanelDior, and Mary Quant." Some people can create things that also create change and Mary Quant was one of those people.

She passed away on April 13, 2023 at the age of 93. Mary Quant once said; "Fashion is not frivolous. It is a part of being alive today."
