Manhattan Vintage Show: January 2014: Part One

A Vintage Nerd

This past weekend I attending the Manhattan Vintage Show for the very first time. And I also finally had the chance to meet the wonderful Joanna from Dividing Vintage Moments.

Is there anything better than enjoying something you love with someone who loves it just as much? Joanna and I were like two giddy school girls in a candy store.

The vintage in the booths that we saw were a feast for the eyes! I learned so much about fabric, texture, design, and walked away with an even deeper appreciation and love for vintage.

One of the beauties that caught both our eyes were these wonderful matted fashion piece of art. Truly unique in that they are original sketches (via late 30s) and they included the swatch for the intended dress. This one was the we were swooning over. They are so pretty.

I have never seen so much Bakelite in person in my life! There was oodles and oodles of Bakelite everywhere. This was just a snippet. *swoon*

The best part of the day was spending time with a good friend and giggling over silly things. Friendship and laughter is good for the soul and so is vintage!

  1. I'm smiling while reading this post. I loved this day. I'm sure we will remember it when we are 80. It is so nice to relive the day through your post and I can't wait for the subsequent details on how you saw the day unfolding. I'm with you there is nothing quite like seeing all these textiles in person and being able to actually touch them so this is a different experience from online or a museum visit. It really is amazing the amount of periods of time represented. I was so tempted to buy one of those pieces of art, especially with the fabric swatches and how nice were those vendors? This is what vintage is about when you are also able to connect with the people too. I'm so glad we got to do this!

  7. My word, that is one of the largest gatherings of Edwardian dresses I've ever seen in one spot. I've come across the occasional one in vintage shops (never while thrifting - I would buy it in a heartbeat if I did, no matter if it was my size or not), which were always very highly priced (almost regardless of condition), but never a selection that vast or beautiful. Goodness, I would have lingered there for ages...

It's so cool that you and Joanna were able to attend this fabulous event together. She's such a sweet, inspiring, lovely lady (just like you, dear Daffny) - I really hope I get to meet her in person one day, too.

Can't wait to see which WW2 brooch you bought!

  8. I've been meaning to go to this for the longest time but I haven't! I promise myself I won't miss the next one. I just hate having to spend money to then go spend more money (says the girl that pays club covers. Oh well.)
