Day in the City: Lexington Candy Shop & The Met

Spending a day in the city is such a treat. There is always so much to discover and rediscover, I was lucky to do both. While my husband and I were walking towards The Met we came across the Lexington Candy Shop and decided to go in and just try it out. That's another fun thing about Manhattan, coming across things you didn't think of visiting. When that happens, if you can, I say go for it.

The Lexington Candy Shop was established in 1925 and located at 83rd and Lexington. Its a perfect place to go to for lunch, in our case breakfast, before heading over to the local museums. I've been to two mom and pop shops like this one located in Queens and Long Island and while they are really neat and have that old fashioned feel their food wasn't anything to write home about. My husband and I didn't order anything fancy but what we did have was absolutely delicious. The bread was fresh, the eggs were tasty, and the bacon was crispy, What more can a girl ask for? Oh, the prices are incredibly reasonable.

I loved it. Its super cozy, the employees were all nice, and did I tell you they still cook on a vintage stove!!?

I say it all the time. The best day to drive into the city is Sunday. If you go early you can score free parking and the plus is that there aren't those pesky large crowds that you usually end up dealing with during the rest of the week.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of my very favorite places in Manhattan to go to. I have been craving to look at art for ages and was so happy to be able to go visit again.

Being among some of my favorite artists and art is really bliss for me. Its peaceful, no large crowds, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Another perk is that you can take photos with your phone. Many of these here were taken with my phone. I think its important to not use your flash when taking photos of 200 year old art.

I told my husband in passing that if they could just place a massive bed in the room where they had all of Monet's work and just turned of the lights, I could sleep there happily. To me, there is nothing better than having the chance to feed your mind, heart, and soul. I believe art does that.

Have you ever been to The Met? Do you have a favorite local museum where you live? Who is your favorite artist?

  1. That sounds like an ideal day out to me as well. I greatly adore art (especially classic art) and would happily sleep in a museum, if possible, as well. What a joy that would be!
