Back to Basics: Jeans and T-Shirts

Sometimes you just have to get back to basics when it comes to fashion. And you really can't get any more basic than jeans and a t-shirt. You can't get any more in tune with your vintage fashion self than by wearing jeans and a tee because they have been around for over a hundred years.

When jeans were first used they were referred to as "blue jeans" which were invented by Jacob W. Davis in partnership with Levi Strauss & Co. in 1871. Then it was patented by Jacob W. Davis and Levi Strauss on May 20, 1873. For 147 years jeans have been a standard for durable and casual fashion. The t-shirt also came about in the 19th century, when laborers would cut their jumpsuits in half to keep cool in warmer months during the year. The first manufactured t-shirt was invented between the Mexican-American War in 1898, and 1913 when the U.S. Navy began issuing them as standard undershirts. The t-shirt also became a staple in wardrobes everywhere from the 1950's onward. You can learn more about the history of t-shirts HERE.

When I am looking for something comfortable and cute to wear I go straight to these two basics. You can even change things up in the cooler weather by wearing a pair of jeans with a tee and a cardigan.

  1. This outfit is so cute and effortless! I love the simplicity of jeans and t-shirts, but finding the perfect jeans can be a tough one. A pair of mine I've sadly had to say goodbye to, so I'm now on the hunt again but it's definitely a wardrobe staple we all need :-).
