Season Two of The Twilight Zone gives us a few iconic episodes. One of them being "Kick the Can" which was the 86th episode that aired on February 9, 1962. It tells the story of the residents of Sunnyvale Rest, a home for the aged. Haunted by the affects of aging, Charles Whitely (Ernest Truex) starts to believe that if he acts young then he will become young. A few people are skeptical of Whitely's idea including his best friend, Ben Conroy (Russell Collins) who thinks he is going crazy.

One night Whitely convinces a group of residents from the home to play kick the can with him. A short time later Whitely and the others are assumed to have turned into children. Conroy didn't join them in their game because he saw aging as inevitable, something he comes to quickly regret when he sees Whitely has reverted into a boy again. Whitely doesn't recognize him and runs away leaving Conroy realizing the missed opportunity in regaining his youth.

Recapturing your youth can be a tricky thing. You can attempt to turn back the clock by changing how you look but its how you think about life that really helps you recapture youth. Whitely was right to a point. Thinking young can keep you young in many ways. It doesn't take away your experiences, knowledge, or bags of luggage from your past, but it can help you stay connected to that child within you.

It was my 45th birthday recently and I cannot tell you how blessed I feel be able to be this age. It's been a rough year but if I can be honest I have had other rough years. Those past challenges taught me to just go with the flow as much as possible especially when tough times appear.

Now when it comes to my birthday I only things I wanted for myself was exactly what I got. A day with my favorite people, my four (six if you count the cats) best friends. The day was spent at home of course. My family decorated the house a bit then I blew out candles from my favorite cake. Throughout the day I was spoiled with gifts, phone calls, and texts.

If I could make 45 wishes for my birthday I would start with having the best birthday. Luckily for me that is exactly what I got.

These days we are all feeling the affects of the stress. Each of us are attempting to deal with it the best way we can especially within a quarantine environment. We take walks when we can, watch a good movie, drink a cup of hot tea, or listen to music, all as a means to destress.

This is where a little fella called Panic Pete comes into play. Give him a good squeeze and his eyes, nose, and ears all pop out. I mean adding one to your list of destressers is not a bad idea given he's cute, retro, affordable, and gets the job done. Think of him as the ultimate stress ball. I scored mine recently at Bobb Howard's General Store which is a local retro candy shop that doesn't just have a selection of nostalgic treats but also nostalgic toys and gifts.

These days I'm trying to add in as much fun and cuteness into my life as I can. Panic Pete does the trick for me. Have you ever used stress balls to destress?
