We don't eat a lot of junk food in our home but some are fun to have once in a while like Doritos.  We usually have them with a sandwich for a lunch. Its a nice crispy treat but really its a junk food. The Term “Junk Food” was used in the 1960s but it became popular after the 1976 song called “Junk Food Junkie”.

Quite a few junk foods had their start in the 1960s. Treats like Ding Dongs and Chips Ahoy! as well as cereals such as, Froot Loops and Lucky Charms all were created in the 1960's. Kids young and old started to have a variety of treats to consume and these junk foods became very popular.

Did you know that twice as much money goes into advertising of cereals than into ingredients for cereals or that commercials for junk food are mostly targeted at young children and teenagers? Junk food is pushed heavily in the food market but if consumed in small doses it should not endanger anyones health.

When I think of junk food I think of a fun treat to be had for a moment. Junk food is meant to be enjoyable and I think these vintage junk foods have definitely stood the test of time. Which are your favorites?
