Through the years of wearing vintage and retro fashions I have found one piece that has become a spring staple of mine. The weather between winter and spring usually fluctuates with sunny days paired with chilly wind. The weather isn't too cold for a coat anymore but it isn't warm enough for a cardigan either. Let me introduce you to my favorite spring transition piece, the cape.
The cape has been used in all lengths, fabrics, and colors through the entirety of the last century. In the 1930's women's capes were cropped and in the 1960's they had pockets. In the 1950's women's capes came with belts and in the 1970's they were knitted. Whether you choose to buy true vintage or vintage inspired women's capes, a cape can keep you warm without having you sweat which is the goal during the winter to spring weather transitions.
My favorite kind of capes have pockets, keep me warm, look stylish, and feel comfortable. It's the perfect spring fashion transition piece that allows you to not feel overheated with a big coat anymore and yet keep you warm when the chilly breeze comes through. They go great with casual jeans and look super cute with dresses. The cape is versatile which is an important because it can be used with so many different outfits sporadically throughout the year. I've worn my capes through all the seasons but it has become my favorite spring transition piece because it does the job that coats and cardigans can't do when the weather is shifting from cold to warmer days.
