Little Pieces of Valentine Art

February 05, 2014

One of the sweetest traditions for Valentine's day began during the Middle Ages when people began giving their loved ones a love note on February 14th. People continued to make their own love notes aka cards until manufacturers like Hallmark (founded in 1910) hired poets and artists to create little mini masterpieces like the above.

Vintage Valentine's Day cards are both adorable and funny. I don't know if any of you collect them but you can find them on Etsy and Ebay. I love how each card is like a little piece of art. One of my vintagey goals is to one day start collecting them but first I want to find really good storage so I have a place to put them in.

Are you planning on making your Valentine's this year or buying modern cards? How about finding a unused vintage Valentine's Day card for a friend or for your sweetheart?

Valentine's Day Dresses at eShakti

February 04, 2014

I am a huge fan of eShakti. I own a few of their pieces such as skirts and a blazer and hope to score a dress one day. I can tell you as a women with a post babies figure, their pieces fit perfectly and are very flattering. I love how you can have your dress altered to fit your figure best. You can add various types of sleeves, change the hemline, and remove pockets. I also love how each and every skirt I own from them has pockets. I also love the beautiful materials they use as well as how good it feels to the touch.

If you are ever wanting to purchase a vintagey piece of clothing then eShakti is the place to go! You will find a huge array of dresses, skirts, blouses, and blazers. Lately they have been bringing in more and more incredible dresses. I have no complaints about them at all. Perfect service and shipping happens in a timely fashion.

Swoon! I just love them all. I think I love the last one the best. Vintagey yet those lips just makes it pop. I shared two that have the same pattern but they are in different styles. eShakti also has blouses with mini heart shapes on it. I just love how eShakti is coming up with new designs for every person's taste. You have all sorts of vintagey styles dresses and in the end they are all beautiful! To me that is a win-win situation. Which is your favorite?

The Perfect Vintagey Valentine's Day Gifts

February 03, 2014

Valentine's Day will be here in less than two weeks and although I do believe we should show the people we love that we love them everyday, I also think this holiday is a super cute one. I mean hearts, pink, red, sparkly thing, its dreamy.

I found a few neat things that I thought would make a great gift for someone in your life. The first few were found on Retro Planet and I thought they were just too cute not to share.

Or you can give your love something a little more cerebral like a book or something visually stimulating like a romantic film. I found these great gift ideas all in Amazon.

I hope you found some of these gift ideas helpful and inspirational.

Vintagey Events Happening in 2014 in New York

February 03, 2014

There are a few great events happening in and around New York during springtime.

Last month I attended the Manhattan Vintage Show for the first time and I just loved it. It was soooo great to see so many vintage things in person. You can read more about it HERE.

Chiller Theater may not seem like a likely place for vintagey things to happen but it does! It is a meeting place of sorts where you can meet and greet stars of yesteryear and I have been to this event three times and I have a blast each time. In the past I met and spoke to some of the cast of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the cast from Denise the Menace, Patty Duke, and many others. You can read more about my Chiller adventures HERE and HERE.

BeautyCon is a hair and makeup convention that usually happens in California and is usually not open to the public. Last year they opened to the public in L.A. and this year they are coming to New York and again opening to the public.

I am not a big hair and makeup fan but I have been slowly falling in love with all of it thanks to vintage. I think its a big deal that they are here in NY this year. I also thought well how neat would be it to get information on new products and share them with my vintage sisters!! I think this event will be smashing!

The Met (as New Yorkers refer to it) will be having an exhibit of Charles James who was a 20th Century American courtier. This event look like a feast for the eyes for a fashion loving or vintage loving person. What a fantastic exhibit this will be!

I will be attending all of these events and am super excited to be doing so! I will also be keeping my eye on more vintagey events happening in or around New York and will share with you if I hear of any others.

There are also two other events happening in New York:

Fashion Institute of Technology will be having an exhibit on the Elegance in an Age of Crisis: Fashions of the 1930s from February 7, 2014 - April 19, 2014.

TCM is still having FREE events to help celebrate their 20th Anniversary. It's important to check this LINK often to see what is happening around town. My husband and I went on a FREE movie tour last month so it is definitely worth looking into!

I hope you are able to attend one or all of these events if you are in town.
