Keeping Your Head Cool In The Summer

New York is starting to have some unbelievable humid days. Luckily I live outside of the city but in the city-phew! If it is a humid day, you can barely breath. All those amazing tall building destory any chances of a nice breeze coming through your hair on a hot day.

Because of the up and coming heat and humidity I have been looking into vintage hairstyles that would keep me cool.

I have done a victory roll updo once which you can see HERE but I haven't done an updo since and I certainly plan to do many this summer. If you can imagine thick wavy hair in the middle of a humid day, well it's just not cute. Not cute at all!

I will share with you my trials and experiments throughout the summer and I included some article and video tutorials at the bottom of this post.

I also included some authentic vintage hairstyle photos with a modern take on them so you can see how it can be done today. You can wear vintage with these hairstyles or wear modern clothes-either way these styles are fabulous for keeping your head cool in the summer!

  1. That first style! Swoon! Where did you find the modern day version (and was there a tutorial to go with it)??
Although it's winter here I'd love to get some practice in at doing up do's so that when the warm weather does roll around again I'll be a pro :)

    1. Thanks Taygan! That tutorials name is 5 easy steps to victory rolls at the bottom of the post ;) xox

  2. Beautiful styles across the board. I particularly like the first back roll style - it's so iconically 1940s to me.

Here's to a cool - in all the meanings of the word - summer, dear gal!

Great styles! I'm a big fan of the braids this season!

  4. Love the 'around the head' Victory roll look of the first pictures! So pretty, and that modern take was lovely ~ I thought it was a great way to add a 1940s look to any outfit. ♡
