A Christmas Story Tee: It's a Major Award!

The iconic holiday movie that is called A Christmas Story (1983) was actually inspired but a series of stories written by Jean Shepherd called In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash (1966). It is his voice that you hear as the narrator throughout the film. A sooting voice by all accounts and it makes perfect sense once you find out that he had a prolific career in broadcast radio that ran from 1945 to 1977.

A Christmas Story which I shared a full review of HERE, has become a classic for my generation. I dare say it can be included with films such a It's a Wonderful Life (1946) and White Christmas (1954). It has a nostalgic feel being set in the 1939-1940. Honestly the year is never mentioned but seeing a fictional cast of The Wizard of Oz walking around the shop while Ralphie and Randy wait in line to see Santa makes me think it was 1939 because that is when the film came out. I could be wrong but either way the nostalgia of the film is the star in every scene despite moments of the 1980's peaking through here in there (aka Scut Farkus's braces).

A Christmas Story may not be deemed cinematically perfect like Miracle on 34th Street (1947) or Holiday Inn (1942) but it is good enough for me. This year I will be introducing this childhood classic to my children and perhaps break out the old A Christmas Story board game for us to play. In the meantime I'm going to play a few rounds in my A Christmas Story Tee with my husband and see who really knows this movie by heart.
