We're All Pretty Bizarre From 80s Tees

Back in 1985 the late John Hughes wrote the words, “We're all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that's all.” For those of you that grew up watching The Breakfast Club (1985) it was the first movie that really showed the complexities of being a teen. Trying to figure out who you are, peer pressure, cliques, feeling like an outcast, family turmoil, and the pressures from family-all were displayed in the characters in this John Hughes movie.

Although Hughes himself was in his thirties when he made this film, he never forgot what it was like to be a teen. He never forgot how odd we could all feel and no matter what our outsides looked liked we were all really going through the same things.

As I have entered my 48th year I have never forgotten how weird I am. This quote from this iconic film from the 80's is a reminder that all those things that make us who we are can be seen as bizarre and that some people hide it better than others. I have never been good at lying especially to myself-so I embrace the weird and bizarre and accept that it what it is. What you see is what you get and so much more.

We are all pretty bizarre, aren't we?

Casual Me with a Classic Movie Tee

Most of my days are spent in casual clothes. I do like to wear a dress on special occasions or if the outing calls for it. But most of my days are spent comfy and casual. I only own a few graphic tees but they aren't something I wear often. An event I went to called for us to wear tees from our favorite movies. I searched  the net for a tee based on the film "To Sir, with Love" (1967) and found this one. Its comfy, cute, and fits me to a tee-no pun intended.

It's true. I have a thing for plaid. The pattern tends to remind me of Fall days and chilly weather. There is a comfy quality to plaid that I have always loved. I have a few staple plaid pieces in my closet but I am always looking for more to add.

What patterns evoke cozy and comfort to you? What are your favorite patterns to wear during the Fall?

Here are some more plaid looks I have worn in the past:

Embracing The Changes

Embracing changes isn't always easy to do whether its dealing with the weather, lifestyle, your figure, or even watching those around you evolve. This June we celebrated our first child's graduation from 8th grade.  It was a beautiful day celebrating our daughter's milestone. There have been many, many milestone's as of late and still more to come. As a mother I relish in the growth that my children are experiencing but also as a mom I find it overwhelming to take in so much change all at once.

One thing that has always helped me in managing a busy, life changing day is to doll up in a pretty dress and throw on some makeup. As silly as it is dressing up can really perk up your mood and get your head into a space of feeling good.

Embracing changes is the best way to deal with change. I find it better to embrace than to fight back things that are going to happen anyway. Next time you are faced with impending changes, find yourself a cute outfit, brush out your hair, and slap on your favorite lipstick. It may seem like a simple thing to do and some may even say its vain, but if you are facing some changes head-on you might as well look good and feel good while doing it.

What approach do you take when you have many changes coming your way? Do you embrace them or tend to avoid them at all costs?

Gratitude Turns What We Have Into Enough

Easter is a season of renewal for many around the world. This Easter season my family and I were reminded about the idea of gratitude. We were able to spend the weekend together just the five of us doing things together that we love to do. That doesn't happen as often as we would like. During that time we spent together we were all reminded how important it is to be thankful for what you have.

That being together is more than enough. That quality should always supersede quantity.  And a reminder that gratitude turns what we have into enough.

Happy Wearing What I Wear

One of the things I have learned through the years as a vintage blogger is that you should wear what you what you love. Whether its true vintage from head to toe, reproduction vintage, or retro inspired fashion, whatever makes you feel comfortable and good is what you should be wearing. In the past eleven years as a blogger I have gone from true vintage to reproduction to retro inspired. I love wearing vintage but pieces in the style I like are harder to come by these days. Some days I might wear reproduction with vintage accessories and other days retro inspired pieces from head to toe.

One thing is for sure, I am happy wearing what I wear. When I first started as a vintage blogger I felt a lot of pressure to look like I came out of a 1940's movie. I tried all the decades and eventually found that I feel most comfortable wearing 1950's and 1960's pieces (although my heart will always be with the 1940's and 1970's for nostalgic reasons).

The gist of this post is where what makes you feel good and happy. At the end of the days it's just clothes and it should serve its purpose which is to decorate your body and make you feel good.
