Be Inspired: Cool to be ⓚⓘⓝⓓ

A Vintage Nerd is my safe space where I can share my love and passion for all things Old Hollywood through fashion, film, books, and lifestyle. I, like many of you have been home dealing with a new normal with quarantine living. I am not a preachy person but I always remember this huge piece of advice my father gave me when I was pregnant with my first child. He said, "Don't take any unnecessary risks." 

Every since he laid that piece of wisdom on me I always hear him say it to me in my head and its the biggest piece of advice I adhere to everyday. As a woman with a physical disability and a mother of three children I have to be diligent and wise about the decisions I make when it comes to our well-being. Whether you believe it helps or not more than ever we need to choose to be kind. When we wear a mask in public we are choosing to be kind to ourselves, our loved ones, and to the public. 

Even if you don't believe this small act keeps people safe it can help alleviate peoples stress and anxiety. I do not personally suffer from anxiety but I do suffer from anxiety (or what I like to call "deep worries") when it comes to my physical well-being because of my disability and when it comes to the safety and well-being of my children. Last time I went to the park with my children we wore masks and social distanced with others but not everyone did and frankly my anxiety went through the roof.

I believe my fathers advice is good sage advice, "Don't take any unnecessary risks." And I will add to that by saying that it is cool to be kind. One simple act of wearing a mask might really make a difference to someone else even if you can't see it. Let's try to think of others as we take care of ourselves and our loved ones during this unprecedented time. Choose to be kind.
